Two contract forms (headed "Confirmation") of Harold Fielding Offices, London, addressed to Fielding, completed, dated May 8 1946 and August 13, 1947 and signed by the great Austrian tenor, conductor, composer and actor who agrees to performances, including one with the Liverpool Philharmonic under Malcolm Sargent. The two forms (1 page each) are identical; the filled-in text is typed. 10.5 x 8 inches (27 x 20.2 cm). Both forms cropped to head and foot (and also to the sides?), if probably without loss to text; edges partly frayed; creases; else in very good condition.
Tauber was one of the greatest tenors of his time and equally at ease in opera and operetta. Fleeing persecution of the Nazis, he lived in England from 1938 and eventually became a British subject. His 1946 contract is about participation in a concert of the Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Malcolm Sargent und June 20, 1946; Tauber was to sing the "Flower Song" from Bizet's Carmen and the "Spring Song" from Wagner's Die Walküre. The 1947 contract, about two concerts in Bournemouth on August 31, 1947, involves both singing (with piano accompaniment) and conducting; among other things, Tauber conducted the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra in his own Sunshine Suite. For each performance, Tauber charged a fee of 80 pounds plus 30 pounds for expenses. Harold Fielding (1916–2003), then still at the beginning of his career, went on to become one of Britain's foremost theatrical producers, especially of musicals.
