Thalberg, Sigismund. (1812-1871). Autograph Letter Signed.

Letter by the distinguished Austrian pianist and composer to an unidentified female recipient. In French. Boulogne, August 4, 1862. 3 pp. Bifolium. Thalberg responds to his correspondent, who is in Paris (translated from French): "Your letter has positively given us pain, and it is really not the pain that bathing in the sea gives you and that is also somewhat enjoyable, and we hope to have better news soon." He later reports from his and his wife's vacation on the sea, which they had to postpone because of his wife's ill-health: "[O]nly yesterday could we take the risk of traveling, and she has not improved by that. The rest and the maritime air let me hope that things will get better within a few days. We are housed very well, the weather and the sea are superb... I won't go to England until the final days of this month if my wife is no longer sick..." 8.25 x 5.5 inches (21 x 13.2 cm).
