A remarkable autograph musical quotation from the great German pianist, who has penned the first two measures of the bass line of J. S. Bach's Cantata no. 29 with an inscription to Theodore E. Steinway on the occasion of his 70th birthday. He writes (translated from the German): "Distinguished anniversaries must be celebrated with distinguished music. So to Mr. Theodore E. Steinway I give the beginning of Cantata no. 29 by Joh. Seb. Bach, 'Wir danken dir Gott, wir danken dir.' Wilhelm Kempff / Schloß Thurnau, Oberfranken, October 16, 1953." In fine condition. 9 x 8.5 inches (23 x 21.5 cm).
