The son of painters Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Charles Delaunay was a French author, jazz expert and co-founder of the Hot Club de France. With Hugues Panassié, he initiated the Quintette du Hot Club de France, with Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, and also edited the magazine "Le Jazz Hot." The present volume is one of five editions of Hot Discography, regarded as the first ever jazz discography. When the present issue was published, Delaunay was a member of the German occupation Resistance.
