[Harmony] Dr. Bemetzreeder. The Art of Tuning our Instruments / Made Interesting & easy to all Students in Music, / And Dedicated to the Amateurs / who like to tune occasionally their Pianofortes. London: Goulding, Phipps, D'Almaine & Co. . [Ca. 1806, based on address].

Upright folio, disbound, complete in 11 pp. Engraved throughout. In fine condition. An interesting early English teaching booklet by an obscure figure unmentioned in any reference of which we are aware, and apparently not recorded in any literature or library, containing an introduction, six chapters which cover Pythagorean proportions and basic rules of harmony as well as instructions on how to hear tuning on a pianoforte or violin. In full, the introduction: "Beginners in Music, we are in haste to play a Tune and to Sing a Song; Students in Thorough Bass, we are in want of Shewy Preludes; Seeking for improvement, we are too busy with the Shakes, Grace Notes, and fancy Passages; hence both voice and fingers become clever before the Ear can distinguish a Note of the Gamut. Therefore the following Chapters are a necessary supplement for us all, both Amateurs and Musicians." Rare, no copies located.
