Lehmann, Lilli. (1848-1929). Enormous Signed Portrait to Geraldine Farrar. An original bust portrait engraving by Erich Heermann of the influential German operatic dramatic coloratura soprano, Lilli Lehmann, inscribed by her to American lyric soprano, Geraldine Farrar. In a very rough translation it reads: "My beloved Gerladine Farrar from her old [printed signature within the engraving] all thanks for her loyalty, Salzburg 1926." 12 x 15 inches, matted and framed without glass to slightly larger. The engraving is slightly foxed and there is a spot just above the inscription, but is very presentable and truly a historic association.

Lehmann sang in the first Bayreuth Festival in 1876, singing in the first complete performances of The Ring Cycle as Woglinde and Helmwige. She performed in London in 1884, and appeared at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1885–1899. Together with her Met colleagues FischerAlvaryBrandt, and Seidl, she helped to popularise Wagner's music in America.  She was also a noted voice teacher. Among her many famous pupils was Geraldine Farrar, who studied with her during the early years of the 20th Century.
