Reinecke was regarded as one of the most influential and versatile musicians of the period. A pianist who toured with violinist, H.W. Ernst, he was an intimate of David, Hiller, Schumann and Mendelssohn. One of the most important composition teachers of the period, his students included Bruch, Grieg, Reznicek, Sinding, Sullivan, Svedsen and Weingartner!
