[Literature & Art] [German Literature] Busse, Carl. (1872-1918) & Dehmel, Richard. (1863-1920) & Falke, Gustav. (1853-1916) & Holz, Arno. (1863-1929) Heyse, Paul. (1830-1914) & von Hofmannsthal, Hugo. (1874-1929). Autograph Document of the Kartell Lyrischer Autoren.
4 pp. Folding creases and light toning; overall in fine condition. 21 x 33 cm.
An important autograph document shedding light on the internal workings of the "Kartell lyrischer Autoren," the cartel founded in 1902 to protect the rights of German lyric authors to earn money from their writing. Founded by Richard Dehmel and Arno Holz, the cartel soon grew to more than a hundred members. The document, dated 1910, is an autograph letter from the German lyric poet and Kartell committee member, Carl Busse to the other members of the committee, with autograph responses following on the same sheet from Richard Dehmel, Gustav Falke, Arno Holz, Paul Heyse, and Hugo von Hoffmannsthal. It deals with a disagreement among the committee: Alfred Mombert has been elected to the committee, but questions have been raised about the election process. Carl Busse's letter suggests another election following a new procedure, to which the other members respond. Richard Dehmel writes: "I stand by my vote for Mombert, but have nothing against proceeding according to Herr Busse's suggestion at a future election. Incidentally, it is not yet at all certain that Mombert will accept the nomination." In fact, Mombert did not join the committee in 1910, but only in 1914, after the death of Paul Heyse.
