Stunning signed large doubleweight photograph of the Senegalese dancer who lived and worked in Paris in the the 1930s, beginning as the drummer for Josephine Baker when she performed The Banana Dance, his own reputation as a dancer growing until he was considered by some as the male equivalent of Baker, and as an exotic fetish focus and charged homoerotic symbol. He was the model for artistic expressions including James Richmond Barthé's famous sculpture of him, as well as photographs by Carl van Vechten and George Platt Lynes, and paintings by James Porter and Pavel Tchelitchew.
