Holiday, Billie. (1915-1959). Large Signed Photograph, ca. 1950. Uncommon original silver gelatin photograph of the vocal legend perched on the arm of a sofa, smiling broadly and holding a cocktail. Holiday has signed and inscribed in black fountain pen lower left: "With Love / to you Both / Billie Holiday." 20 x 28.5 cm. Light creases/nicks to corners and edges, mounting remnants on verso, slight yellowing in center of image, else fine.  The skilled photographer is unknown.

Revered as one of the greatest and most individual vocalists in the history of blues and jazz, Holiday died from cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 44. Signed photographs of her are very scarce and this is the only signed example of this remarkable image we have encountered.
