Typed letter signed by the American jazz and pop singer whose career spanned six decades.  Lee writes, "I am honored to send you my lil ole book.... and you KNOW I hope you think that I am a great, fresh, new literary talent to be compared with.... well, I think I'd better quit while I'm ahead."  Dated January 29, 1952.  Letter creases and slight wear to the lower edge; otherwise in very fine condition.  20.2 x 25.7 cm.

From Lee's beginning as a vocalist on local radio to singing with Benny Goodman's big band, she forged a sophisticated persona, evolving into a multi-faceted artist and performer. She wrote music for films, acted, and created conceptual record albums—encompassing poetry, jazz, chamber pop, and art songs.  She was also the inspiration for the Muppets' Miss Piggy.
