Three original documents relating to the great activist's historic account of the Montgomery bus boycott, Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story, published in 1958. King's retained copy of his publishing contract with Harper & Brothers, dated October 17, 1957, and signed by two representatives of Harper & Brothers, outlines the terms for the publication of the book, under the earlier name A Moment In History: The Montgomery Story. (The contract is not signed by King). 4 pp. on two legal-size sheets, joined at one short edge. Folding creases and a few small edge tears; overall in very good condition. 9 x 15 inches (23.2 x 38 cm).
Also included are an autograph note from agent Marie Rodell to King, asking "When may we expect the balance of chapters?" on a yellow index card (5 x 3 inches), as well as the original invoice from Harper & Brothers to King, sending him his personal copy of the book on January 16, 1958 (2 copies, joined at the edge; 8 x 5.5 inches.)
