Her 1954 recording of the role in this production, with Tullio Serafin at La Scala, is widely considered one of her greatest. 1953-1954 also marked a turning point for Callas: she began to lose weight dramatically, becoming a striking and svelte soprano, but arguably at a cost to her voice.
