An original photograph from a scene in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride, staged at the Parisian Théâtre de la Renaissance on December, 1899. Pictured in costume are Gabriel Soulacroix as Oreste, Emile Cossira as Pylade, and Louis Ballard as Thoas, dressed in elaborate Grecian robes. In very fine condition, mounted on a heavy board in very good condition with some wear to the edges, the photographer's name mostly cut away. 8.5 x 11.25 inches (22 x 28.8 cm).
Gluck's most successful opera, Iphigénie en Tauride was staged more than 400 times in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and was newly arranged in 1889 by Richard Strauss.
