Chesnel, Jean. (1915–?) & Ross, Gertrude. (1889–1957). Three Signed Photographs.
Three signed photographs of musicians of the early twentieth century, inscribed to tenor Lawrence Strauss. Shown are baritone Jean Chesnel (inscribed "in remembrance of a few minutes of fugitive meeting obtained through 'Pelléas'" and dated July 3, 1947), composer Gertrude Ross, and a "Gladys" we have been unable to identify. Overall very fine. 5.25 x 7 inches (Chesnel) and 8 x 10 inches.

Baritone Jean Chesnel debuted at the Opera-Comique in 1946, and remained a regular principal in Paris for most of his career. One of his principal roles was Pelléas in Debussy's Pelléas et Melisande.

Composer Gertrude Ross is remembered for her art songs, including a particularly interesting cycle of songs on Japanese folk tunes and poetry, published in 1917.
