Rare and unusual original pair of Columbia Recording Corporation 12″ inch test pressings, one marked "Pt 1, Mikrokosmos, Bartok" and the other "Pt IV, Mikrokosmos, Bartok," both signed by the composer on the label: "Accepted / Bartok." Framed to an overall size of 16.75 x 30.75. In very good to fine condition, with some paper loss to each label.
Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos (in Hungarian, Mikrokozmosz) Sz. 107, BB 105 consists of 153 progressive piano pieces in six volumes written between 1926 and 1939. The individual pieces progress from very easy and simple beginner études to very difficult advanced technical displays, and are used in modern piano lessons and education. Bartók recorded about one-third of the group for Columbia Records in 1940 (Columbia ML 4419).
