Chopin, Frédéric. (1810–1849). Oeuvres Posthumes pour Piano [...] 1re Livraison. Fantaisie-Impromptu. Paris: Ancienne Maison J. Meissonnier, E. Gérard et Cie. [1857–1864].
9 pp. [P. N.] J. M. 3523. Light foxing; some fingerings in pencil to the first page; overall fine. 10 x 13.25 inches (25.5 x 33.5 cm).

Early edition of Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu, op. posth. 66. One of Chopin's most frequently performed and popular compositions, it was composed in 1834 and published posthumously in 1855 by Julian Fontana, Chopin's friend and musical executor. A twentieth-century discovery by Arthur Rubinstein, a manuscript in Chopin's hand of another version of the piece composed for and dedicated to the Baroness d'Este, suggests that Chopin did not publish this version because he did not consider it finished, and that the finished version was a paid commission for the Baroness. Brown no. 87; Chominski & Turlo no. 46.
