Hampton, Lionel. (1908–2002). Early Signed Photograph. Signed Bruno of Hollywood photograph of the American jazz vibraphonist, percussionist and bandleader, who is shown playing the vibraphone. An early photograph, ca. 1935, inscribed "Best of luck to phippie young/ Lionel Hampton". 6.5 x 8.75 inches (16 x 22 cm). Irregularly trimmed to accommodate signature, scattered surface creases, lower left corner perished, otherwise good.

From the collection of Phillip Young, who developed close personal friendships as as teenager with Count Basie, Rex Stewart, and Red Allen, having approached them following performances. Stewart eventually secured him a press pass, allowing Young to attend an incredible number of jazz performances by some of the greatest artists of the time. He corresponded with Stewart while stationed abroad during WWII and maintained the friendship through his life.
