Armstrong, Louis. (1901–1971). "Lose Weight THE "SATCHMO" WAY – Signed Diet Plan and Photograph on the Toilet!. 3 page stapled typed plan to "Lose Weight The 'Satchmo' Way by Lucille Armstrong & Louis Armstrong, signed and inscribed in green fountain pen on the first page: "To Jeff /Louis Armstrong."  Accompanied by an unopened packet of Swiss Kriss and glossy 2.25 x 3.25 inch Swiss Kriss promotional photograph of a grinning Armstrong sitting on a toilet, with text reading: "Swiss Krissly: Satchmo-Slogan, (Leave It All Behind Ya). Usual folds and slight toning to margins, else fine. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 28 cm.). 


Armstrong was greatly interested in health and bodily functions, advocating the use of laxatives to control weight. He would publish his ideas in a book called Lose Weight the Satchmo Way, and also appeared in advertisements for his favorite herbal laxative, Swiss Kriss. In this manuscript, he describes a regimen of regular meals supplemented by orange juice and Swiss Kriss. Advertised in the opening remarks, "Swiss Kriss...herbal laxative Bisma Rex...it cuts gas / Fresh orange juice...it's delicious, softens fat."  A very unusual item the great jazz artist, who once wrote "Satchmo Slogan / the more you shit / the thinner you'll git / no shit."
