Hardcover in slipcase. 8vo, 434 pp. including discography, index. Collected, edited, and translated from the French by Denise Restout and Robert Hawkins. Frontis portrait; illustrated with photographs. Copy 22 / 1000, neatly signed in ink by the editors, Denise Restout and Robert Hawkins to the ffe and inscribed additionally by Restout and dated December 4, 1964 "For Vivian / who knows, feels, and understands all there is in this book / with love / Denise" and with Hawkins signing again as "Hawky." Spine somewhat rubbed and scuffed, small tear to cloth at spine head, else fine and contained in a scuffed black slipcase with white titles and gold decorations. A nice association copy.

From the collection of Vivian Wood (1923-2021), the American mezzo-soprano, educator, and author who was a student of Denise Restout and appeared in recitals, oratorios, operas, and on radio and television throughout the United States and European during the 1950s and 60s. Wood was recipient of the 1955 Young American Artists Concert Award in New York City and a Wanda Landowska fellow from 1961-1968. She spent the last decades of her career as a professor at the School of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Denise Theresa Restout was a French keyboard teacher, expert on German and French Baroque performance practice for the keyboard, and was assistant, protégé, domestic partner, editor, and biographer of Wanda Landowska.
