Full portrait woodcut engraving on wove paper of the American poet and essayist, created ca. 1955 by the eminent American artist, who has signed "Baskin" to the lower right in pencil.  Unexamined out of frame but in apparently fine condition.  Sight 4.75 x 15 inches (12 x 38.1 cm.), matted and framed to an overall size of 22.5 x 11.75 inches (29.8 x 57.1 cm.).

Leonard Baskin's career as a sculptor, printmaker, painter, illustrator, critic, book publisher, and educator spanned over five decades.  His body of work "resonates with a rare degree of visual, social, and intellectual intensity." (Davidson Galleries)  In addition to his body of creative work, Baskin founded the Gehenna Press, a private press specializing in art books that remained operational until his death.  "After over 100 books and 50 years, the Gehenna Press can be called the most successful private press of all time, for no other private press has achieved anything near its output and longevity." (Brandeis University)
