Boards rubbed and spine heavily chipped at top, else fine. With a signed inscription by the author, and an interesting inscription from the Comtesse Renee Maeterlinck, “May the Blue Bird Stay with you Always.” Sold together with an additional ANS from her regarding the death of Maurice Maeterlinck and a printed mourning card/envelope.

Maeterlinck, the Belgian author, was an outstanding exponent of symbolist drama and the author of “The Blue Bird” and “Pelleas and Melisande,” on which Debussy's great opera was based. Debussy's score retained and enhanced the abstract, dreamlike quality of Materlinck's play and the work is regarded by many as a perfectly wedded fusion of music and drama. Maeterlinck is known particularly for his works of drama and received the Nobel Prize in 1911.
