This first issue without the imprint of Rouart, Lerolle & Cie., containing only the copyright details of the publishers and the wrappers are brown with red lettering and not orange and red.

Parade was composed for Diaghilev and was first performed at the Théâtre de Chatelet on May 18, 1917 in a performance conducted by Ernest Ansermet. "This epoch making ballet, whose unchanging pulse is that of the human heartbeat, put Satie into the forefront of the avant garde and from then on his primary aim was to make his music chic, Parisian and shocking." (Grove) The present score contains a preface by Georges Auric, a synopsis by Jean Cocteau and a cast list of the premiere.
