Kreutzer, Conradin. (1780–1849). Das Nachtlager in Granada. Romantische Oper in zwei Acten nach Friedrich Kinds Drama bearbeitet von Freiherrn C. von Braun... Vollständiger Clavierauszug von Componisten. Vienna: E. Mollo and A. C. Witzendorf. [after 1837]. Later edition, printed from plates of first. Piano-vocal score of the German composer's best-known opera, arranged by Kreutzer himself. [PN] A.O.W. 2764. 183 pp. Engraved. Double pagination: Consecutive pagination to lower outer corners; separate pagination for each musical number (for individual sale) to upper outer corners; the headers for each number are also designed with individual sale in mind. Oblong folio, bound in contemporaneous marbled boards with black label to upper board. Original yellow, lithographed upper wrapper and lithographic portrait of the composer bound in before title. The header of No. 3, Romanze ("Ein Schütz bin ich"), includes the printed note, "Gesungen von Herrn Poeck" (sung by Mr. Poeck; he did so at the first performance). 13 x 9.5 inches (32.5 x 25 cm). Occasional marks in pencil. Spine and corners show later professional repairs with black plastic tape and gilt lettering to spine. Imperfection in final leaf professionally repaired. Some later damage to spine.

A fine copy of a re-edition (or later issue) printed from the plates of the first edition, which had been published by Trentsensky und Vieweg in Vienna in 1834. Mollo and Witzendorf acquired Trentsensky's and Vieweg's business in 1837. Das Nachtlager in Granada exists in two versions: the first, with spoken dialog (first performed in Vienna, Theater in der Josefstadt, on January 13, 1834), and the second with recitatives (first performed also in Vienna but at the Kärntnertortheater, in 1837). The present edition represents the first version. While the fourteen musical numbers are complete, the spoken dialog is not included. Das Nachtlager in Granada once was wildly popular in the German-speaking lands and is still occasionally revived.
