Uncommon signed photograph of the celebrated Italian baritone sitting casually, with the back rest of the chair between his legs. by Vuagnat, Geneva. Inscription in French and signature to verso, translated, "A memento of friendship for my dear Maestro, Monsieur Bovy-Loysberg. – A. Tamburini. Geneva, September 7, 1861." 4 x 2.5 inches (10 x 6.2 cm). Crease to lower right corner; stains to lower margin, somewhat foxed; else in very good condition.

Tamburini was one of the leading baritones of his time and participated in many world premières, e.g. in Bellini's I puritani and Donizetti's Don Pasquale. Bovy-Lysberg was a Swiss composer and pianist. In the 1830 he went to Paris to study with Chopin. He also made the acquaintance of Liszt, who arranged for the publication of Bovy-Lysberg's opus 1, Les suissesses, a set of five waltzes. He later moved back to Switzerland. His music, which may be classified as salon music, is largely forgotten.
