Sousa, John Philip. (1854–1932). "The Diplomat" - Autograph musical quotation signed. AMQS by the great American military bandleader, dated "1905."  Two measures on one staff identified by the autograph caption, "The Diplomat."  Mounted on a sheet of thin cardboard as an ensemble together with a photocopy of a headshot of Sousa in uniform, wearing a peaked hat.  Ensemble measures 9.75 x 8.25 inches (24 x 18.7 cm).  In fine condition.

Sousa composed The Diplomat in 1904.  "I remember that one of my best marches, from the standpoint of lasting popularity, was written with the best tenderloin I ever had tasted for an inspiration. The march was 'The Diplomat' and the city was Mitchell, South Dakota, and mentally at least, I dedicated the march to the unseen cook who prepared that tenderloin." Paul E.
