Signed halftone photograph of the great composer and conductor on the podium, inscribed to Polish-born composer and pianist, Alexander Tansman, "To Alexander Tansman  / with all my best wishes / I. Stravinsky / 1942." Mounted to another sheet and measuring  3.25 x 3.75 inches (96 x 83 mm). Fine. 

Tansman lived in France in the 1920s and was in the circle of Stravinsky, Ravel, Milhaud and others.  After the occupation of France, he fled to the US in 1941 and spent the years of the second world war in Hollywood. In 1948, he published "Igor Stravinsky: The Man and his Music," an extended tribute to his personal friend of that time and place, which was the first published biography of the composer. Shortly after the death of Stravinsky in 1971, he composed Stèle in memoriam Igor Stravinsky.
