Skelton, Red. (1913 - 1997). Skelton's Joke Cards. A remarkable item from the American comedian best known as a top radio and television star from 1937 to 1971. After starting his show-business career in his teens as a circus clown, Skelton went on to vaudeville, Broadway, films, radio, TV, night clubs and casinos, while pursuing a separate career as a painter.
"His vocal efforts sound like gastrutus in tempo."
"Unquestionably the world's greatest singer...by that name."
Collection of Skelton's personal comedy index cards, with typed jokes and ideas for skits, including some concerning music (as sampled above). 110 cards, including some with hand-written notes. Also included is a photocopy of a note from Red's wife, Lothian, stating that "I personally feel that these, with proper publicity, should bring in excess of $25,000." Some cards slightly toned, but overall in very fine condition. A fabulous collection, a real deal compared to Lothian's original estimate!
