Very scarce autograph quotation from the creator of Bess in Gershwin's 1935 opera "Porgy and Bess." After touring in the US and performing song recitals throughout Europe, she settled in Norway and became a Norwegian citizen in 1948. In 2000, she was awarded Norway's Council of Cultures Honorary Award and continued to teach there until her death.
