An intriguing depiction of the Italian ballet dancer, shown in tradition Polish costume. Born in Visinada, Istria (present-day Vižinada, Croatia, she was trained at the ballet school of Teatro alla Scala in Milan and later with dancer/balletmaster Jules Perrot. She was especially noted for her performance in the classic role of Giselle.  Here, Grisi is shown full length, in costume, giving a dancing lesson to the fabricated dandy of the County Cousin. With four lines of comedic dialogue (“...you must be a little quicker in your motion to please the Ladies”) at the foot. 7.75 x 9.75 inches (19.6 x 24.8 cm)
