Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Felix. (1809–1847). Autograph Musical Quotation - "Scottish Symphony.". Exceptional autograph musical quotation from one of the composer's most famous works, the Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56, known as the "Scottish." Five measures from the grand first movement, neatly penned and signed in full "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy." On a small sheet, irregularly trimmed, laid down to a contemporary slightly larger sheet which has been tipped to a rigid mat. 13 x 7 cm.



The symphony was conceived as early as 1829, during Mendelssohn's trip to Scotland, but was not completed until 1842, and it was not published in full score until the following year, with a dedication to Queen Victoria. The premiere took place on 3 March 1842 in Leipzig, under the baton of the composer.
