[Musical Game]. "Labyrinthe Musicale – Jeu de Musiciens" Parlor Game.
Beautiful antique boxed parlor game, "Labyrinthe Musicale – Jeu de Musiciens," designed by pianist/teacher Alice Averaerts Zlica and published 1923 by Maison Delvigne in Brussels and bearing a printed dedication to Queen Elizabeth of Belgium. Zlica herself served as the official piano teacher to the Belgian royal family for several decades in the early 20th Century. Box measures 10 x 8 x 2 inches (26 x 20 5.5 cm). This set originally from the collection of  Belgian music historian Paul Bergman, and sold together with one of Zlica's personal visiting cards, inscribed to him. Decorative box with some wear and splitting to edges, otherwise complete and in fine condition.

Players must compete to correctly identify "famous musical themes" printed on the back of various color-coded paper slips. Included is a booklet of playing instructions as well as a full list of all of the printed musical themes. Interestingly, although the cover of the box advertises that the game contains "500 themes connus" and there is indeed room for 500 paper slips inside of it, there are only 355 printed slips plus an additional 45 blank slips (upon which the players could presumably fill out with their own musical themes if they so desired), making only 400 slips in total. But the accompanying printed booklet confirms that this was indeed the complete set of slips as issued. Either the cover is a misprint or the decision to include fewer strips was made post-production.  The University of Ghent has an example in their collections (which also contains only 400 slips, further confirming that this set is indeed complete) but we have been unable to locate any additional institutionally held sets.
