Uncommon broadside poster from a 1937 concert by the Boston Symphony Orchestra ("110 Musicians") with Russian conductor, composer and double-bass virtuoso "Dr. Serge Koussevitzky." Tuesday Eve, December 7 [1937]. Elmwood Music Hall, Buffalo, NY.
According to the BSO archives, the orchestra performed the following works:
- Franz Joseph Haydn / Symphony No. 88 in G major
- Sergei Prokofiev / Lieutenant Kijé [Kizhe], suite, Op. 60
- Jean Sibelius / Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43
While broadsides of concert soloists from this period are relatively uncommon, it is especially unusual to find a full poster for an orchestral performance. This one of only a handful we've ever seen on the market and though relatively simple, is quite graphically striking. Archivally framed under plexi in a modern cerused wooden frame and in fine condition. 23.25 x 15 inches (59 x 38 cm).
