Dutilleux, Henri. (1916-2013). Sonate pour Flute et Piano - SIGNED Presentation Copy. Paris: Alphonse Leduc. [1943]. First edition. Folio. 16, 7 pp. [PN] 2057. Original wrappers, a very good copy. Music printed on war-time paper stock which is browned and a little worn, otherwise fine. Two penciled corrections in the hand of the composer, and with a signed ink presentation inscription from Dutilleux , "Pour Paulette et Pierre, affectueux souvenirs, Juin 1943." [For Paulette and Pierre, affectionate regards, June 1943]

The recipient of this copy was likely the composer's sister Paulette.  She married a Mr. Mestre and had three children, one of them name Pierre and perhaps the husband was also called Pierre, but we have not been able to definitively discover this.

The work was commissioned by Delvincourt for the Paris Conservatoire competitions. It displays the influences that Ravel, Debussy and Roussel had on Dutilleux's early works.
