An historic large color portrait of the legendary pianist, signed and inscribed to his longtime record label, RCA Victor. The printed portrait is by Albert Fischer, from his series of RCA Victor Red Seal Recording Artists, this example signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint ink along the right side "For R.C.A. Victory / cordially - Arthur Rubinstein" and dated upper left "29.5.51." Laid down to board, some staining around edge, else fine. Visible area measuring 12.5 x 9.75 inches (32 x 25 cm); matted and framed to overall 21.5 x 17.5 inches (55 x 46 cm).
The month digit in the inscription is somewhat difficult to positively confirm as it is partially smudged but we believe it to be a "5", which conforms to the period in which Rubinstein was recording Chopin at the RCA Hollywood Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
Over his eight-decade career, Rubinstein played thousands of concerts across Europe and the U.S. to South America, Asia, Australia, North Africa and Russia. He initially recorded for HMV/EMI and then began a thirty-six-year association with RCA, making a large quantity of recordings from 1928 to 1978. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of all time.
