The French cellist Auguste Tolbecque composed a number of works for his instrument but is primarily remembered for giving the 1873 premiere of Camille Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1, a work which was dedicated to him by the composer. On 22 December, 1894, Tolbecque directed a private performance in Niort of the present charming and playful operetta in one act, composed by him and with text by Henri Clouzot.
